4th or July….AKA “Independence Day”

So, I had a stroke of inspiration tonight. The holiday that us Americans hold so highly, has struck. On Xbox Live tonight, I overheard some guys talk about how much they spent on fireworks for the holiday. One guy, laughingly, admitted he only bough sparklers for his daughters, another gloated about his 200 dollar bill, and another talked about the high grade bottle rockets he purchased, and lastly — the best  — some guy described his 450 dollar, professional grade, kit, and then mentioned he spent an additional 300 dollars on an assortment of weaker fireworks.

I spoke with some friends that talked about a nonchalant barbecue and a few beers. Facebook was booming with fun facts about “‘Merica” and humorous memes about not paying taxes and how America has turned in to a police state, and etc. etc.

I’m over here, alone, in the corner saying, “I have to work.” Life of a hotel bartender halts for NO Holiday. I’m okay with it, though. Fireworks hold my attention for ten minutes TOPS. Drinking beer all day and blowing stuff up just makes me want to take a nap by 4 o’clock, so work seems like an alright option.

Instead of celebrating by blowing melons and coffee cans up, I decided to make a playlist. DUH, of course I made a playlist, right?!?!

In honor of the spirit of Independence Day and what it originally meant, I picked songs that reminded me of America, Independence, Government, and Revolution. A serendipitous bonus — all the artists are American.

So, Happy 4th of July, drink a beer, blow up a coffee can, complain about the police, shoot some high grade bottle rockets off, and watch a professional grade fireworks display for me. All the while, listen to my playlist on repeat in your headphones.
